Google Gears Version Of Gmail Coming.

We knew it was only a matter of time but according to the Hindustan Times, it looks like Google is reading an off-line, Google Gears enabled version of Gmail for release.

Google Gears was developed primarily to give Gmail an off-line reader but until recently lacked the bi-directional sync that is needed to successfully implement an off-line desktop client. If it works as advertised this could become a very big deal for all web-based applications not just web mail applications. I for one plan on watching this closely to see if they have the bi-directional sync issues worked out.

Currently, Microsoft is leading the way with their Live Mail Desktop client. So perhaps Google has just a little bit of catching up to do in this area.
