I got up this morning, and while reading my RSS reader I saw this one
MS Explorer foundering after UFO strike | The Register WTF, I though have aliens perpetrated some sort of mass attack on Microsoft Explorer, ah la Independence Day, causing millions of Explorer users to lock up in mid screen.
I had to read this one, so after clicking on the headline I find out they are talking about a Canadian Cruise ship, Explorer, striking a "Unidentified Floating Object", presumed to be chuck of ice floating in the seas near Antarctica, not a alien attack on Microsoft, damn.
Check out the post:
OK, they got me, kudos to the headline writer, they did what a good headline does, driving traffic to read the story.... Sphere: Related ContentThe IT world was electrified this morning at reports that MS Explorer was foundering and expected to sink without trace shortly, possibly due to a UFO attack.
The company behind MS Explorer issued a statement saying that it was in severe trouble after collision with "an unknown object... Explorer’s [attributes] allow... access [to] places that other [technical platforms] can not visit and she has set many other firsts... passengers and crew have taken to the lifeboats... the captain and his first officer are still aboard ..."
At least one (http://www.bymnews.com/news/newsDetails.php?id=18735) news outlet chose the headline:
Explorer listing badly after hitting UFOOh, all right then. It's Motor Ship (or Motor Vessel) Explorer (http://www.eagle-eye.com/Locations/MV_Explorer.html) which is sinking in the Antarctic, not Microsoft's business model or anything. And it's an unidentified floating object, possibly an iceberg - though the ship had been doing ice cruises for a long time, so it might well have been a floating container or some such.
Everyone's all right, apparently. Including Cap'n Bill and First Mate Ballmer, who is no doubt busy rearranging the deckchairs.
