The word is that Yahoo is launching an invitation-only trial for MyM, a "social messaging" service. Similar to Meebo, it will allow users to aggregate multiple instant-messaging clients into one, allowing you to keep in touch with all your friends, even if they are on incompatible networks.
With all the social networking announcements made recently there does appear a need for services that can combine messages from different sites, otherwise we will find ourselves switching from window to window while we are wasting hour after hour jabbering on about nothing.
The trick will be to intergrate these services gracefully enough that the competing social services will persuaded not to block MyM by their users, otherwise MyM will have a tough go.
